Lynn Smith started in the dog show sport in 1977, showing and breeding great Danes, but after a beautiful bulldog puppy caught her eye at a match, she found the breeder and made him promise if he ever repeated the breeding, he would sell her a puppy. Some months later, the breeder obliged, and Mrs. Smith had her first bulldog, Dakota’s Wyatt of Larlyn.
The day after bringing the four - month - old puppy home, in March 1990, “Wyatt” won a Best In Match. While his breeder went on to show Wyatt to his championship, Mrs. Smith secured two foundation bitches and started her Larlyn bulldog line, breeding her first litter in 1992.
By the mid - 1990s, Mrs. Smith was showing her bulldogs herself at both American and Canadian Kennel Club shows, finishing a number of AKC championships from the Bred By Exhibitor class. She has been an AKC - licensed judge since 1992 and has been approved to judge bulldogs since 2001. Other breeds Mrs. Smith judges are great Danes, boxers and Siberian huskies.
Active for many years in several bulldog breed clubs, Mrs. Smith is currently the American Kennel Club delegate for the Bulldog Club of Philadelphia.
Mrs. Smith has been a member of the Bulldog Club of America since 1993 and is currently secretary of BCA’s Division VII. Now living in Virginia, she is also a member of the national club’s Breeder Referral Network, typically breeding one or two litters per year.
