Ruby Grogg’s first bulldog came into her life in 1960 when her roommate, Geraldine Brown, took a fancy to the breed and acquired one as a pet. Soon after, the two bred their first litter and, by 1963, had produced the first of many champions, Jerubes J.B., finished by a professional handler in 21 days with three Best Of Breed wins.
In 1967, Ms. Grogg began exhibiting her own dogs, going on to become an AKC - licensed professional handler for a number of years. In the mid - 1970s, she met and began mentoring Gretchen Dyson after Mrs. Dyson bred her first bulldog bitch to one of Ms. Grogg’s dogs. They soon formed a partnership and began breeding bulldogs under the DyGros prefix.
As a breeder - owner - handler, Ms. Grogg has finished more than 100 bulldog champions, including multiple Bests In Specialty Show and all - breed Best In Show winners, Best of Breed winners, group placers and top producers.
Among her more notable dogs was Champion Dy - Gros Gilbert, bred and co - owned by Ms. Grogg with Mrs. Dyson and shown in the early 1990s by Ms. Grogg to 18 Bests In Specialty Show, several Group Firsts, multiple group placements and more than 80 Bests Of Breed.
In the 1970s, she showed her home - bred Champion Jerubes Spark O’Godsend to a Best In Show win over more than 3,000 dogs, multiple group placements and more than 30 Bests Of Breed.
Champion Gaylords Potthouse Pacoker was an exceptional bitch Ms. Grogg purchased from Mickie Potter Brown and showed in the late 1970s and early ’80s to numerous Bests Of Breed and group placements. During the late 1980s and early ’90s, as breeder - owner - handler, Ms. Grogg showed another outstanding bitch, Champion Sauerkrauts Tangled Rose, to numerous Bests Of Breed and group placements.
Ms. Grogg has been a licensed bulldog judge since the early 1980s and is a member of the Bulldog Club of America’s Breeders Hall of Fame. In the late 1990s, Ms. Grogg was approved to judge French bulldogs, which she and Mrs. Dyson also breed, co - own and show.
Now living in North Carolina, Ms. Grogg enjoys judging at specialty shows and remains active in showing French bulldogs, breeding bulldogs and French bulldogs, and training in obedience and agility.
