Hello. I’m Kerry Nesbit—owner and sole
employee of Kerry Nesbit, Incorporated, which owns and operates Speaking of Bulldogs.
I started my company as a writing and graphic design business in
1983 after three years as a writer-editor-photographer for an
insurance company. In 2007, I decided to shift from selling services to creating and marketing information products on topics that truly interest me. To that end, I've been working on developing several e-books and audio products for people who, like me, absolutely adore bulldogs.
I don't claim to be a bulldog expert, but throughout most of the 1990s, I owned two bulldog littermates, Emily and Stuart, who got me started training and teaching classes at the Winston-Salem Dog Training Club. I'm still teaching a class every session and taking classes with my German Shepherd rescue, Jack.
Stuey was especially fun to train and was well-known at the club for his rock-solid stationary exercises, and for scratching off on the recall. As the only obedience-trained bulldog anyone knew of in town, he even got a part in a television pilot filmed here.
I briefly showed Stuart and Emily in conformation, but mostly just enjoyed them as fabulously cool companions. As limited as my dog-showing experience is, I did learn a lot about the breed, hanging around at the dog shows for several years. In creating my bulldog-related products, I hope to give new and aspiring bulldog owners access to that same kind of mentoring by interviewing bulldog experts.
I
have a master’s degree in journalism and business and a bachelor’s
degree in radio, television and motion pictures—both from the
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. While
in graduate school, I studied marketing and advertising in the
UNC School of Business.
